Can I make a foot amputation compensation claim?

You can make a foot amputation compensation claim if you lost all or part of your foot in an accident that was the fault of another person or organisation.

Examples of foot amputation claims can include: accidents at work; road traffic accidents; defective products; crush injuries.

Sometimes, amputations don’t happen straight away. The level of amputation suffered in an accident may not be the final extent of it. Tissue damage can lead to further removal by surgery. In some cases, the accident may not result in an immediate amputation. Doctors may try to save the foot, but if the injuries do not heal or are so extensive, an amputation may follow. What’s important to know is that a delayed amputation is still part of your claim, because it comes from the original accident.

You still might be able to make a claim if you think you were partly to blame. Bear in mind that there are time limits in compensation cases so it’s best to get in touch with a solicitor as soon as possible.

Can I claim for a foot amputation?

You can claim for a foot amputation if someone else’s negligence was responsible for the accident that caused it. That could be an employer, a driver, a manufacturer, the occupier of a building, or a landlord.

You may still be able to claim if you were partly at fault, though the amount of compensation you receive is usually less.

What evidence do I need for a foot amputation claim?

You have three years from the date of the accident, or the date you became aware the accident was responsible for your injury.

There are exceptions to the rules, including for children and for people who lack mental capacity. But it’s always better to start your claim as soon as you can.

How long does a foot amputation claim take?
