When a cyclist is struck from behind by an HGV, the consequences are almost always catastrophic. For our client, an experienced rider on an electric bike, this fear became reality when an HGV drove directly into the back of him without braking or hesitation. Bike-Camera Footage That Changed Everything

Early in the case, the defendant HGV driver claimed that our client had emerged from the side of the road. This was unequivocally disproven by the bike-mounted camera our client had fitted to his e-bike.

The footage showed exactly what happened: The HGV simply ploughed into the rear of the bicycle. Straight, clear road. No sudden movement. No braking.

This evidence became central not only to the civil claim but also to the later criminal proceedings.

One particularly distressing moment came when the Crown Prosecution Service informed the Court that our client was “making a good recovery.” This was entirely inaccurate. He had suffered significant, permanent spinal injuries. The family – rightly concerned about how this misinformation could influence sentencing – made a formal complaint with our support. The complaint was subsequently upheld.

During the criminal proceedings, the defendant changed his plea. The judge recognised that this was not an early or principled admission, but one prompted by the existence of the cycling footage.

As a result, no credit was given for the guilty plea.

After conviction, the insurer provided a full civil admission, allowing our team to accelerate progress toward settlement.
