The incident

When Ian set off on his bike ride home in December 2023, he couldn’t have known how dramatically life was about to change. A van travelling at more than 60mph struck Ian while he was cycling causing life-changing injuries.

Before the injury I was a very physical person. Coming to terms with not having that physical release was very difficult. Without doubt it's been the single hardest thing I've ever had to do.

The Settlement

The settlement provided long-term financial security and funded the support Ian and his family would need moving forward. It enabled them to move into a property adapted to his needs and ongoing care.

Throughout his recovery, he remained determined to find new ways to move forward.
He returned to cycling using a hand bike and completed a 100km ride around Yorkshire.
Today, Ian continues to focus on what matters most which is his family, his health, his teaching and helping others.
