Yaser Jabbar Group Action update – client’s story features on BBC Newsnight
Last night, our client’s mother Jodee Seeley shared her daughter Alana’s story on BBC Newsnight, following surgery by orthopaedic surgeon, Yaser Jabbar.
Alana underwent corrective surgery to help straighten her knee in 2022 and was treated by Mr Jabbar, who is accused of carrying out “inappropriate and unnecessary” operations during his time at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
A review by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) uncovered significant patient safety concerns related to hundreds of young children, who were under the care of Mr Jabbar during the period between 2017 and 2022.
Fletchers’ Associate Amy Kirk is part of the medical negligence group action team acting on behalf of families whose children underwent surgery by Mr Jabbar. She is calling for the Trust to rectify concerns with the manner in which they are executing the independent reviews based upon records alone, without discussion with the patient and their families themselves.
“We admire our client’s mother Jodee for sharing her harrowing story on Newsnight last night and hope that other families impacted and affected by the actions of Mr Jabbar will find comfort on hearing her talk so openly.”
“We also really want Jodee’s story to compel the Trust to rectify the issues raised by other families with the ongoing independent assessments and ensure discussions with the patient themselves takes place to ensure the review fully reflects the experience of the patients. Many families who have had their independent review have been left disappointed by the ongoing lack of transparency, urgency and accuracy and we urge the Trust to rectify these issues.”
