I lead a specialist team managing complex clinical negligence claims for clients with significant rehabilitation, care and accommodation needs.

I have over 15 years of civil litigation experience and joined Fletchers Solicitors in August 2016 as a Solicitor/Specialist Litigator within the Medical Negligence Department. I progressed into the Serious Injury Clinical Negligence Team, specialising in high-value and catastrophic injury cases including amputations, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.

I chose to specialise in clinical negligence because the work is ultimately about people, not just legal cases. Many clients come to us during some of the most difficult periods of their lives, often after a serious failure in medical care has completely changed their future. Being able to support someone through that uncertainty and help them regain a sense of stability and control is what keeps me motivated in this role.

A big influence on me personally was growing up with a blind father, who dedicated a huge part of his life to running a sports organisation for blind and visually impaired people. Watching the positive impact that sport, inclusion and community had on people’s confidence and independence shaped my outlook from a young age. It also gave me a strong awareness of some of the barriers disabled people can face and the importance of creating opportunities, support and accessibility.

Over the years, I’ve become particularly passionate about supporting clients with life-changing injuries, including amputations, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries. These cases involve much more than securing compensation- they’re about helping people access rehabilitation, adapt to a new way of living and move forward with confidence.

My work with disability and amputation charities affiliated with the firm has further reinforced how important practical support, inclusion and independence are to long-term quality of life, and that continues to drive the work I do today.

I try to keep my approach straightforward, practical and supportive. Clinical negligence claims can be stressful and overwhelming, particularly for clients dealing with serious injuries or major changes to their lives, so clear communication and consistency are really important to me.

I take time to understand how an injury affects someone day to day, not just from a medical perspective but also how it impacts their family life, independence, work and future plans. That helps me build a stronger case and make sure the support and rehabilitation being pursued genuinely reflects the client’s needs. I’m proactive and determined in progressing cases, particularly where early rehabilitation, interim payments or liability admissions can make a meaningful difference to a client’s situation. At the same time, I want clients to feel comfortable asking questions and confident that they are being kept informed throughout the process. A lot of my work involves clients with complex and life-changing injuries, so building trust and maintaining long-term relationships is an important part of how I work.

Rebuilding independence after amputation- Following a devastating road traffic accident, their life changed overnight. Losing a limb in his early thirties meant facing not only the physical trauma of amputation, but also the fear of losing his independence, confidence, and identity. One of the moments the client remembers most was receiving early access to specialist prosthetics and rehabilitation support. Rather than waiting years for the help he needed, interim funding meant he could begin rebuilding his life immediately. Step by step, he learned to mobilise again, regain confidence outside the home, and return to everyday routines many people take for granted.

Delayed diagnosis of spinal cord compression, client was already living with deafness and learning disabilities when a delayed diagnosis led to catastrophic spinal cord injury and permanent quadriplegia. One of the most heartbreaking consequences for her family was the loss of British Sign Language as her primary means of communication. The case also required a deeply compassionate and collaborative approach because of the vulnerability of the client and the emotional impact on her family. Building trust and ensuring the family felt supported through every stage of the process became central to Kate’s role.

We handle complex, life-changing injury cases, with a shared commitment to improving lives, not just progressing claims. Each of us brings different strengths – from client care and rehabilitation to strategy and organisation – creating a supportive environment where clients feel genuinely cared for.

What I enjoy most about my role is the ability to make a genuine difference to people’s lives during incredibly difficult times. The work is challenging, varied, and highly rewarding, particularly in complex cases involving amputations, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. I value the strong team around me, the flexibility Fletchers offers, and the shared commitment to achieving the best outcomes for clients while maintaining a positive and inclusive working environment.

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling both across the UK and abroad, often exploring new places in my campervan with my husband and our pets – with the Highlands and Cornwall among my favourite UK escapes. I enjoy staying active through hiking, yoga, strength training, spinning, jogs, and long dog walks. I also value time spent staying closely connected with friends and family. I enjoy good food and discovering new restaurants wherever I travel and have a creative side as a classically trained flautist.
