Emma Semwayo

I’m a Partner and Head of Clinical Negligence at Fletchers. I work alongside others to lead the Clinical Negligence teams, and I currently have responsibility for Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham, while also remaining Head of the Leeds Office.

I’ve specialised in clinical negligence for over a decade and I’ve always been determined to represent clients who do not have a voice and to make a real difference to their lives. Over this time, I’ve provided high-quality, often life-changing legal representation to hundreds of clients across a wide range of clinical negligence claims.

I’m motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting difference to the people I work with and the clients we serve. I take genuine pride in building strong supportive teams where individuals can grow, feel valued and deliver their best work.

The Clinical Negligence teams at Fletchers are structured as mini departments led by experienced Team Leaders and supported by strand leaders and fee earners. Together they look after our clients through their claims journey, and I supervise the exceptional Team Leaders.

I enjoy the opportunities Fletchers has given me to grow and develop, from leading a successful Team Leader role to taking responsibility for caseloads, clients and team performance. I have valued working as part of a generalist team, which required a broad range of legal knowledge and skills to achieve the best outcomes for our clients.

I also enjoy the challenge of supporting and integrating newly acquired teams across Leeds, Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham, particularly during periods of change, where I can provide clear leadership, build trust and establish strong, effective teams.

Outside of work, I love spending the summer going to music festivals. It’s a fabulous way to wind down, have some fun and listen to some great music!
