Amy Clayton

I’m a Solicitor in the Brain Injury Unit and handle complex and serious injury claims from initial instruction through to settlement.

My work involves collaborating closely with clients, medical experts, and counsel to establish whether negligence has occurred. I’m particularly focused on securing the best possible outcomes for her clients – not just financially, but also in terms of rehabilitation, accommodation, and long-term care.

Between 2021 and 2024, I successfully completed the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE), achieving results in the first quintile for all examinations on my first attempt. I qualified as a solicitor in June 2024 and went on to complete a Master of Laws in Legal Practice, graduating with a distinction in December 2024.

One of my proudest achievements so far has been working in partnership with charities that support individuals affected by serious injury, helping to improve lives beyond the legal process.

I want to help people rebuild their lives after devastating injuries. It is so rewarding to support clients and their families through difficult times and achieve outcomes that make a lasting, positive different. I’m particularly passionate about paediatric claims and helping children and their families secure the support they need for the future.

I believe that the best outcomes are achieved by truly understanding my clients and their experiences. I take the time to build close relationships, often meeting clients and their families at home so I can gain a deeper understanding of the challenges they face and the impact their injuries have had on their lives. I pride myself on thoroughly understanding the evidence and presenting the strongest possible case on behalf of my clients. My personal approach, along with meticulous attention to detail, helps me to secure the best outcomes.

ANON v NHS Trust

Amy assisted on this admitted claim for a stroke caused by surgical error achieving compensation of £7 million. As a result, our client suffered a significant brain injury and was unable to return to work with his much-loved employer. During the claim, our client received a holistic therapy package including case management, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology, speech and language therapy, neuropsychology, and vocational rehabilitation. The Client had the support to grow his young family, re-engage with his hobbies such as holidays, photography, and Warhammer, and return to education to give him a focus. Our client was able to purchase his forever home, a bungalow, to assist him in improving his independence.

ANON v NHS Foundation Trust

Amy assisted on this fully disputed claim involving the alleged failure to commence haemodialysis which resulted in our client suffering a stroke, brain damage, and a spinal cord injury. Our client’s relationship broke down due to her injury, and she was vulnerable and isolated. A key part of this case was building a trusting relationship with our client and providing her with a listening ear. It meant a lot to our client that we were always available for a chat or reassurance at all stages of the case. This was a very difficult and complex case, we were very pleased to secure a settlement of £500,000. At the end of the case, our client described her legal team as 3 friends.

ANON v Drs Surgery

Amy led a claim for the admitted failure to recognise symptoms of a stroke which led to our client suffering a brain injury. Our client was an artist, and the impact of the stroke had a profound impact on her ability to produce and teach art. At the time of the negligence, our client was retraining as an art psychotherapist and, despite on-going difficult, successfully qualified during the claim. Our client slowly rebuilt her confidence and was able to resume her position as an art teacher albeit it on a reduced basis. A settlement was achieved of £130,000 and our client said this had ‘made a real difference’ to her life.

I work closely with Claire Lloyd Durney, who provides guidance and mentorship with legal cases and beyond. A team approach ensures that there is always someone available for our clients to contact, and cases can progress efficiently.

I joined Fletchers in September 2020 and gained a place on the Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeship. I qualified as a Solicitor in June 2024. The chances for career progression at Fletchers are fantastic, with a dedicated Learning & Development team there is always the opportunity to further your career. Fletchers have a very supportive environment and supporting colleagues is actively encouraged through mentoring schemes. Being able to help clients through difficult parts of their lives provides fulfilment in the role and gives the work we do immense value. Fletchers has specialist units, such as birth injury and neurotrauma, which provides for the opportunity to develop a specialism. Working within the Neurotrauma unit enables lawyers with expertise in brain and spinal cord injuries to come together to work on complex cases and share knowledge.

I love keeping active, and you’ll usually find me at Zumba, yoga, Pilates, or parkrun! I’m very keen on supporting our Fletchers charity partners, local charities, and my local community. I raised over £1000 for our charity partner, Rainbow Hub, by running the Manchester Marathon in April 2026 and the Great North Run in September 2025. I’m a keen ballroom and Latin dancer and each year take part in Strictly Queenscourt, a Strictly Come Dancing style event raising much needed funds for my local hospice. I enjoy volunteering in my local community; I’m a Run Director at my local junior parkrun, and a Girlguiding Leader at a local Rainbows unit.
