ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

£120,000 Compensation for Driver Injured in HGV Collision

Case overview

Our client, a 52-year-old Delivery Driver and Warehouse Worker was seriously injured when his vehicle was struck from behind by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) while returning from a road trip in Scotland. The collision caused significant physical and psychological trauma to both him and his partner.

Injuries Sustained

As a result of the accident, the client suffered multiple serious injuries, including:

  • Fractures to the T12 and L1 vertebrae
  • A sacral fracture and lower back pain
  • Bilateral soft tissue injuries to his knees
  • Lacerations and bruising, including cuts to his scalp
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) alongside anxiety and depression
  • Chronic Primary Pain

Impact

The aftermath of the accident had a profound effect on the client’s life. He became dependent on a close friend and family members for care and support. The strain of the incident also contributed to the breakdown of his relationship with his partner, who was also injured in the crash. The client became socially isolated as his injuries limited his ability to engage in everyday activities and hobbies such as walking, hiking, and photography.

Legal representation & outcome

The case was managed by Chartered Legal Executives Katie Rutter and Victoria Martin, who worked closely with the client to secure the best possible outcome. Their expertise resulted in a settlement of £120,000.

The settlement will fund ongoing psychological support and private therapy beyond what was initially provided during the claims process. It will also support a bespoke, one-to-one multidisciplinary programme aimed at restoring physical function, managing chronic pain, and improving the client’s overall quality of life.

More recently, the client has made positive strides in his recovery and was even able to climb a mountain near his home. While he has not yet returned to work, he remains hopeful about returning to employment in the future.
