PERSONAL INJURY

Client receives £13,985 compensation for missing cover on stop cock

The incident

Our client was involved in an incident where they sustained injuries due to a missing cover on a stop cock asset on the public highway.

A stop cock asset controls the mains water supply and, in public places, these are covered with manhole-like covers in order to avoid injury to the public.

The defendant in this case is Welsh Water, who is responsible for ensuring stop cocks are correctly covered, and that health and safety standards are upheld.

Sustaining injuries as a result of this incident, our client naturally sought compensation, which is where we came in to help.

The aftermath

The incident caused our client to have a soft tissue injury to her right knee and an injury to her ribs.

She also developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result.

Working as a psychotherapist/counsellor, the claimant has suffered psychological effects herself from the incident, which caused disruption to scheduled appointments with clients.

Our client is also single and self-employed, so relies solely on the income from her clients.

The case and outcome

The case was handled by Tasneem Bodi – a personal injury lawyer.

The client received a settlement of £13,985 to compensate for the injuries she sustained as a result of the incident, as well as the psychological effects she has suffered since.

This compensation has allowed our client a buffer for her in the future if she becomes unwell or is unable to work again, providing financial peace of mind.

Reflecting on the conclusion of the claim Tasneem said: “One of the high points of doing this job is the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a difference to someone who has suffered trauma. My client now has piece of mind that if anything was to happen to her she has that money as a backup.  For me, the vital treatment she received for her PTSD,  paid for by the insurers was just as important as the financial compensation to allow her to move on from that trauma.”
