Supporting Recovery When Life Changes in an Instant

At Fletchers Solicitors, the Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. campaign reflects how we support people after life-changing injury, not just through legal advocacy, but by helping clients access rehabilitation, clarity and confidence at every stage of their recovery journey.

For Charlotte Mackulin, a Partner and Serious Injury Solicitor, this mission is central to everything she does. With more than 19 years of experience in serious and catastrophic injury law, Charlotte has built a reputation for tenacity, empathy and unwavering commitment to her clients, helping them navigate some of the most complex and difficult moments of their lives.

Walking Beside Clients Through Complex Cases

Charlotte specialises in catastrophic and life-changing injury claims, representing individuals who have suffered an amputation, spinal cord injury, severe traumatic brain injury, brachial plexus injuries, chronic pain, poly trauma or tragically suffered a fatal accident.

In every case she takes on, Charlotte’s focus is on the person and their family.

“I firmly believe that every person deserves to feel supported, heard and understood after a serious injury,” Charlotte explains.

“The legal process can feel overwhelming at a time when someone’s life has been turned upside down — and ensuring they feel guided, informed and supported from the very first meeting and throughout the case is equally as important as securing the right outcome.”

Charlotte is known for her ability to combine strong negotiation skills with a personal, down-to-earth approach, ensuring that her clients not only secure the maximum amount of compensation but also access critical rehabilitation, care and support throughout the lifetime of the case which ultimately helps improve the quality of life for her clients and their families.

Championing Brain Injury Support – Headway and Fletchers in Partnership

Charlotte is a specialist solicitor accredited by Headway UK,  the UK’s leading brain injury charity and is also a trustee of Headway Central Lancashire. Supporting clients with serious brain injuries is a key part of Charlotte’s work, and her partnership with Headway, plays a central role.

Charlotte says. “Working with Headway means we can offer clients practical support, advice, and access to rehabilitation services that complement the legal work we do.”

Charlotte sets in place a specialist MDT rehab team around the client and refers them to charities like Headway to ensuring they can access specialist guidance, therapies, and community support.

Charlotte also champions training and awareness around brain injury, ensuring people understand the medical, cognitive, and emotional challenges clients face and how this interplays with the litigation process.  She recently provided training to both Headway and also BABICM (British Association of Brain Injury & Complex Case Management),

“It’s about giving people hope and showing that, even after a life-changing injury, they can rebuild and thrive,” she explains.

Expertise Built on Experience and Care

Over her career, Charlotte has secured various multi-million pound settlements across a wide range of complex cases, from severe brain injury claims requiring Court of Protection, involvement to life changing spinal cord injury and amputation cases involving long-term care needs.

But for Charlotte, the value of her work goes far beyond a final financial award.

“My role is about helping people find stability when life can feel very uncertain,” she says. “Recovery isn’t just about physical healing — it’s about accessing the right rehabilitation, having the right support around you, and knowing that you have someone fighting for your best possible future.”

This philosophy aligns closely with Fletchers’ wider commitment to holistic support, where legal expertise is paired with rehabilitation planning, case management and practical assistance that reflect each client’s unique needs.

Helping People Recover, Rebuild and Thrive

Charlotte believes that early intervention and structured rehabilitation well before a case has settled can make a huge difference to a client’s ability to recover and rebuild their life. As she puts it:

“Every step forward, whether it’s accessing a specialist therapist, planning for adapted living, or securing early interim financial support to help ease the financial burden on clients and their families, contributes to slowly rebuilding their confidence and independence and enables them to have the best quality of life possible.”

Her approach is grounded in combining astute legal strategy with practical support, always prioritising the outcomes that matter most to clients. This invariably means working closely with case managers, financial deputies and treating professionals to ensure a comprehensive rehabilitation package is available from the very outset and not only integrated into settlement plans

Proud to Be Part of Fletchers Solicitors

Charlotte says she is proud to work at a firm that genuinely understands the importance of the full recovery journey, not just the legal process.

“Fletchers’ commitment to recovery, rehabilitation and long-term wellbeing reflects why I do this work,” she says. “We’re here for the big milestones and the smaller moments that make the biggest difference, a conversation that reassures a client, a strategy that secures timely support, or simply being there to listen.”

This holistic mindset, supporting clients emotionally, practically and legally — is at the heart of why Charlotte thrives in catastrophic injury work.

The Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. Difference

At its core, Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. recognises that recovery isn’t defined by a settlement figure alone. It’s about helping people regain confidence, independence and a sense of possibility after serious injury, and ensuring they have access to the right support at the right time.

“Thriving means different things to different people,” Charlotte reflects. “For some, it’s physical progress both large and small from taking their first few steps to being able to get back on their bike and ride again or make a meal for their family, for others it’s being able to plan for the future with clarity. If my team and I can help someone feel supported, informed and hopeful — then I know we’ve made a meaningful difference.”

Whether through complex spinal and brain injury work, securing tailored rehabilitation support, or standing beside clients as they navigate life’s most difficult chapters, Charlotte embodies the Recover. Rebuild. Thrive. approach, empowering people to find stability and purpose after injury.

As one of her amputation clients recently put it:

“From the very first conversation, I felt like I was finally being treated as a real person, rather than just another file on someone’s desk. Charlotte and Louise took the time to understand not just the facts of my claim, but also the personal and emotional impact the injuries had on my life. Their holistic approach made such a difference; addressing my needs as a whole person, not simply focusing on the legal side of things.

The level of care, professionalism, and empathy they showed was truly remarkable.

If you’re looking for solicitors who will see you as a person, not just a case, my experience of this firm is exceptional, and I can’t recommend them enough. Charlotte, Louise, and their wider team provided clarity, guidance, and unwavering support when I needed it most. I have left the process feeling supported, understood, and reassured in what my future has to offer.”
