Peter Bland

I’m a Partner and a Head of Costs Litigation in our Costs department. I’m responsible for managing three drafting teams and the Fixed Costs team, while also providing advocacy support to the wider legal teams.

I qualified as a Costs Lawyer in 2012 and developed a strong interest in advocacy, attending hundreds of assessment hearings nationwide. As the costs landscape evolved, I broadened my practice into other areas of litigation, particularly personal injury. To support this wider advocacy work, I went on to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive and obtained additional Advocacy Rights in 2020.

Throughout my career, I’ve been motivated by the wider impact that developments in costs law can have across the profession. I’m driven by the fact that a successful case on a small point of principle can have far-reaching impact that benefits clients across the industry. I’ve been involved in many such cases, particularly in relation to fixed costs.

What I particularly enjoy about working here is that the role offers real variety. From internal projects, to training opportunities, to working on technical legal arguments. There are also excellent opportunities for career progression, an extremely positive culture and a strong team environment where you feel supported by the people around you.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and coaching my eldest son’s football team. I have three boys who all play football for local teams, so that certainly keeps us busy! I also enjoy golf, mountain biking, fishing, socialising with friends and long walks with my labrador, Molly.
