Paul Cahill

I’m the Head of Compliance at Fletchers, and I’m responsible for making sure the firm stays up to date with its regulatory obligations, as well as identifying and managing any risks that arise from the work we do. This can involve everything from individual claims to broader projects that support the firm’s overall objectives.

I qualified in 2008 after studying Law at the University of Liverpool and completing my Legal Practice Course at the College of Law. My varied career has given me the experience to confidently handle the wide range of issues that come through the compliance team.

I manage the team responsible for legal and operational compliance, which means we support the business with a wide range of queries and challenges. These can include complaints, helping to put things right where mistakes have been made on files, or providing guidance to file handlers when they are dealing with complex or unusual issues.

I really enjoy the role because it is fast-paced and varied. It gives me the opportunity to get involved in a broad range of matters, often solving complex problems and helping to ensure the best possible outcomes for both the firm and our clients.

As Head of Compliance, my clients are the firm and its individual members of staff. I’m always available to provide support and reassurance, and I get involved early when things look like they may be heading off track, helping to resolve issues and guide them back in the right direction.

The team have a varied background and bring a range of different experiences to the team. The whole team has a skill for analysis of cases, customer service and legal issues that ensure we can provide a good service.

I enjoy the challenging nature of the work I do, as well as the opportunity to work closely with my team and colleagues across the wider department.

I also really value the positive culture within the team and at Fletchers as a whole. I believe that a strong, supportive culture and a commitment to working in a compliant and responsible way naturally go hand in hand, and that makes it a great environment to be part of.

I’m a keen cyclist and train regularly, having taken part in several charity bike rides with colleagues, including multi-day events across Europe.

In addition to this, I still try to play 11-a-side football on Saturday afternoons, although I’m probably a bit too old for it now, and I’ve realised I’m often more interested in the social aspect rather than the football itself!
