Legal Support and Advice for Patients Treated by Dr Sayed Mohamed Ridwan Mia
Dr Sayed Mohamed Ridwan Mia is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who previously gained recognition for pioneering skin graft techniques in Johannesburg, South Africa. He moved to the UK in 2021 and later became a Consultant at Signature Clinic in January 2022, carrying out procedures including blepharoplasty, gynaecomastia surgery, cosmetic procedures and non-surgical aesthetic treatments.
GMC Investigation into Dr Mia
The General Medical Council (GMC) has opened an investigation into Dr Mia after concerns were raised by a third party. We understand that Signature Clinic has provided the GMC with information relating to patients treated by Dr Mia and/or the clinic, enabling the GMC to begin its initial inquiries.
The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, on more than one occasion between October and November 2023, Dr Mia carried out surgical procedures at a private clinic without holding the necessary registration with the Care and Quality Commission (CQC). It is also alleged that on 14 November 2023, whilst present at the premises, Dr Mia claimed to be a patient and gave a false name and contact information to a CQC inspector.
It is further alleged that on or around 3 January 2024, when completing a Declaration of Concerns form at the request of his designated body, Dr Mia omitted to include his work at the premises. It is alleged that Dr Mia’s conduct was dishonest.
At present, the specific nature of the concerns raised has not been made public, but we are representing patients who have been harmed because of treatment provided.
However, the GMC has acted promptly. As of May 2025, restrictions have been placed on Dr Mia’s licence to practise. These include requirements for Dr Mia to:
- Notify the GMC of his current employment arrangements
- Inform the GMC of any disciplinary procedures initiated against him
- Provide details of his line manager or supervisor for any role he undertakes
- Obtain GMC approval before beginning work in any non-NHS post or setting
These steps reflect the GMC’s precautionary approach while its investigation continues.
